Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a health-care treatment modality that focuses on regaining, maintaining and maximizing physical function, movement, strength, and general well-being. Whether it is recovery from an injury, reduction of pain, or rehabilitation after surgery, physiotherapists use their in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology to assess your symptoms, diagnose your condition and treat the root cause of your symptoms in order to achieve your physical goals.

What Can I Expect From a Physiotherapy Session at Empower Health?

Your Physiotherapy initial visit will consist of a thorough assessment, including medical and injury history and effective techniques to assess and diagnose your condition. Subsequently, your physiotherapist will draw on various treatment modalities in order to best address your condition. All sessions are 1 hour in length, one-on-one and manual therapy (“hands-on”) focused. Physiotherapy treatment techniques may include joint mobilizations, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, massage, trigger points, mobilization with movement, and taping. Education and exercise prescription (strengthening, and stretching) will also be provided. Please note we are not set up with machines such as ultrasound or TENS, nor do we have extensive gym equipment available for more active rehabilitation programs.
Physiotherapy treatment at Empower Health is focused in a holistic manner, therefore your physiotherapist may assess and treat areas distant to your specific area of pain or injury if it is determined that these areas are contributing factors. The body as it exists is an interconnected whole, so sometimes the origin of the problem lies elsewhere.
Your physiotherapist can assist with a wide range of symptoms and conditions, some of the most common being:
  • Arthritis,
  • Tendinitis (achilles, rotator cuff, elbow),
  • Sprains and strains
  • Bursitis
  • Patellofemoral pain syndrome
  • Shin splints
  • Repetitive strain injuries
  • Acute or chronic pain
  • Postural pain
  • Spinal pain
  • Undiagnosed pain
  • Stress-related pain and tension
  • Post-surgical recovery
Physiotherapists at Empower Health are duly qualified in their field, are registered with the Physiotherapy Association of BC, and are committed to ongoing education and a high standard of practice. Direct billing to extended health insurance providers is available.
