Merissa Jennings-Turner, RTC, SEP Counselling & Trauma Therapy
Merissa Jennings-Turner is a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC) and a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (ACCT). She is a wife of over 20 years and a mother of 2 beautiful children.
Merissa’s holistic approach to healing stress, anxiety and trauma focuses on helping you integrate your body, mind, emotions, soul and family history, as well as your current relationships.
Merissa believes that the mind and the body are intimately connected. The complexity of who we are as human beings require an expanded paradigm to healing. A wider lens that looks beyond the presenting issues, informed by early development, sociology, depth psychology, family systems and models of consciousness proposed by neuroscience and spiritual research.
Merissa’s passion is helping to heal and strengthen relationships. Relationship to self, relationship to our partners, to our parents and our children who carry and act out most of what is unexpressed in the family system.
Self-sabotage, depression, obsessive thoughts, unexplained fears and anxieties, lack of financial security could have been passed down through the generations and therefore require a multi-faceted approach to heal.
Without healing these wounds at the root level, people will often continue to struggle. Merissa aims to help you uncover what’s at the root of your issue so that you can break the generational cycle of pain and dis-ease.
Merissa’s holistic counselling approach is informed by the following:
Depth Psychology works to heal on a deep level of one’s being including thoughts and feelings, those that you are unaware of.
Family Systems Theory and Family Constellations work by examining the family dynamics of the family you grew up in as well as the dynamics that were passed down through the generations.
Somatic Experiencing works on releasing the pain and trauma in the nervous system where the core of your struggles are rooted.
Dr. Neufeld’s Developmental Attachment Theory focuses on the bond that parents build with their children and how this influences the child’s development.
“The truth about our childhood is stored up in our body, and although we can repress it, we can never alter it. Our intellect can be deceived, our feelings manipulated, and conceptions confused, and our body tricked with medication. But someday our body will present its bill, for it is as incorruptible as a child, who, still whole in spirit, will accept no compromises or excuses, and it will not stop tormenting us until we stop evading the truth.”
